Doris Bingley is the Hon General Secretary of the National Council of Women of Malta. She is Vice-President of the International Council of Women and Hon President of the European Centre of the International Council of Women. She is also Head of the Commonwealth Women’s Network in Europe and the Liaison Officer with the Commonwealth Secretariat. She represents the Council on the Monitoring Committee of EU Funds. She is a member of the network on Domestic Violence, a member of the Consultative Council for Women’s Rights and of emPOWer.
She graduated as a teacher and apart from teaching; she dedicated her time to philanthropic work in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Caribbean. She has held a wide range of posts among them President United Nations Women’s Organisations, Member of the Commonwealth Foundation Civil Society Advisory Committee, Member of the Commonwealth Foundation Board and Executive Committee, and alternate member of the European Economic and Social Committee. Her expertise includes promoting the participation of women in decision-making, women’s rights and strengthening the organizations for the advancement of women. She participated and made presentations in Conferences in Europe and Internationally. She represents NCW Malta in various Government committees. In 2011 she was recognized by the Commonwealth Secretariat and awarded the title of Woman Agent of Change for the Commonwealth. In 1997 her volunteering work in Nepal was recognised by the American Women of Nepal when she was awarded the Community Service Award for the important role in furthering better understanding between people of different nationalities, while in 2015 the National Council of Women Malta bestowed on her Honorary Life Membership. She is married and has three children and six grandchildren.
