Ms. Gertrude Buttigieg

Ms Gertrude Buttigieg  obtained a Masters in Health Services Management in 2003 following a first degree in BSc Communication Therapy in 1995. Both qualifications were conferred by the University of Malta. As a Licensed Speech Language Pathologist she was employed by the health division and worked mainly in the field of Speech-Language therapy for 17 years within the Primary Care Department dealing with all areas of the profession from paediatric to geriatric care within a community and rehabilitation setting.

In June 2013 was recruited as Communications Officer with the Office of the Commissioner for Mental Health and Older Persons. Gertrude’s face and voice are familiar to the Maltese audience as she has participated for a number of years on various TV and Radio programmes educating the general public on Communication difficulties and the Speech Therapy. On a voluntary basis she has been serving on the committee of the Association of Speech Language Pathologist since 1995 – 10 years as Secretary, 9 years as President and recently appointed Vice-President.

Since 2007 has been the Honorary Secretary of the Malta Health Network as a result of which was nominated and elected to serve for the 2nd term of 2 years on the Civil Society Committee of the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development as representative for the sectors of Health and Elderly. In 2005 was elected Honorary Secretary of the Malta Federation of Professional Associations and currently was nominated and selected to be the representative of the Federation on the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector.

Gertrude has participated as speaker and participant in several conferences locally and abroad and considering the vast professional practice and years of experience in the voluntary sector brings along a rich baggage to the field of volunteering.
