As from a young age Robert Farrugia was involved in the Scouts Association, Local youth groups and Fokolarini Movement, this initiation in acquiring his love towards volunteering. Later in life he made the move to combine his profession with the voluntary sector, starting to work professionally with Eden Foundation in 2000, VO for persons with disability getting more hands-on on everyday realities of the sector. In recent years he joined one of the leading organizations in Malta within the Social and Humanitarian sector, Missio as Head of communications and fundraising.
After these various experiences, in 2007 the VO Act was established and Robert was nominated to participate in the first Council, during which he was confirmed in the first Council where he was appointed as the first Chairperson of the Council, holding post from 2008 till 2013. He held post on the Council as a member from 2013, eventually being appointed as a Deputy Chairperson in 2019, which post he holds till present specifically representing the Social and Humanitarian Sector. During this time in MCVS he has had various experiences at European level, one of which was as National Coordinator for the European Year for Volunteering 2011. Robert was elected to the Centre for European Volunteering (CEV) Board in 2021 for a 4-year term.
