Following an immediate call issued to voluntary organisations after Storm Harry struck the Maltese islands earlier this year, a total of 60 organisations reported having suffered damage. An allocation of nearly €330,000 will be provided to support them.
This was announced by Minister for Inclusion and Volunteering Julia Farrugia during visits to the Sliema Aquatic Sports Club and RMJ Horse Rescue, two organisations that were severely affected by the storm. The effects of Storm Harry on voluntary organisations varied considerably, with many finding themselves forced to suspend or significantly reduce their activities. Several organisations lost essential equipment, sustained damage to their premises, and had to reschedule services and initiatives that had already been planned.
As a result, a number of communities were temporarily left without the regular support they rely on, while volunteers faced the additional challenge of restoring their organisations to normal operations.
