Almost €1 million in funds were awarded to VOs to implement 85 new projects this year.
These funds are part of the Voluntary Organisations Project Scheme (VOPS) and the Small Initiatives Support Scheme (SIS), managed by MCVS within the Ministry for Inclusion and the Voluntary Sector (MIV).
Speaking during the event, Ms Gertrude Buttigieg, Chairperson of the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector, stated that “85 projects are receiving funds to carry out work in our community. Projects that reflect the good that the sector is offering to our society. The projects vary from improving the infrastructure and resources of various organisations in the fields of health, disability, youth, sports and music. There are also community learning projects and even two vans so that organisations can improve their work.”
In a message delivered during the ceremony, Minister for Inclusion and the Voluntary Sector Julia Farrugia explained the legacy that voluntary organisations are leaving behind through these projects. “This government will continue to stand by the voluntary sector, as we firmly believe that voluntary organisations are the backbone of stronger and more inclusive communities. The projects being funded through these schemes, not only make a difference in the lives of many people, but also create opportunities and innovative solutions that continue to enrich our society. Our support is not only limited to financial investment, but also in other tools that strengthen the capacity of organisations to continue to better serve those in need.”
