A practicing Speech-Language Pathologist, and Voice Coach, for over 25 years, Norma Camilleri worked in various community settings and has a special interest in Voice. She had set up the Voice Clinic as well as the Joint Voice Clinic within the Speech-Language Department, and also led the Voice Specialized Division for several years. Norma regularly provides workshops to professional voice users and anyone with an interest in voice, on voice production, vocal care, the professional voice user and other topics. She has also presented at seminars and conferences locally and abroad.
Norma was brought up as an active citizen in the voluntary sector first giving her contribution to the village community of Xaghra, Gozo, where she was born, and then on a national as well as European level. She has been President of the Association of Speech-Language Pathologists, ASLP, since 2014, after serving as Secretary and then Vice-President. In 2019 she was also elected President of ESLA, the European Speech and Language Therapy Association where she had also served a term as Treasurer. She led the organisation through the restructuring and re-branding process from CPLOL to ESLA in 2021. She was recently also elected as Chairperson of the Civil Society Committee within the MCESD. She strongly believes in the importance of the voluntary sector in society, and how it also shapes volunteers and allows them to develop important life skills. She is currently CEO of the Malta Federation of Professional Associations.
