Avant-garde threshold @ IL-ĦAĠAR

Il-Ħaġar Museum (Pjazza San Ġorġ, Victoria) is offering an important temporary exhibition from Saturday 11 November to Sunday 7 January, featuring graphic artists Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720 –1778) and Max Klinger (1857 – 1920).

Italian Piranesi was – and remains – especially noted for his etchings, in particular Vedute di Roma and Le Carceri.  A selection from both these series, including a fabulous map of Rome, are included in the exhibition. German Klinger is best known for serial prints. One of these series, consisting of ten etchings, Paraphrase über den Fund eines Handschuhes (or, simply, “ A Glove”) will be exhibited. The viewing of these original etchings is obviously an extremely rare opportunity – nay, unique!

The accompanying catalogue is published as Il-Ħaġar GEMS 27. Support is acknowledged from numerous institutions, specifically GBK Malta Ltd as well as the Gozo Action Group Foundation through the LEADER Programme.

PIRANESI – KLINGER On the Threshold of the Avantgarde is being officially opened by Minister Clint Camilleri on 11 November at 7.30pm, with a preview that morning at 11. Il-Ħaġar is open 9am to 5pm seven days a week, without any entrance fee.
