Sacred Music Concert

International soprano Adriana Yordanova and renowned versatile musician Ramona Zammit Formosa will be performing a lunchtime concert organised by Barocco Foundation held on Tuesday 28 December 2021 at St. Catherine of Italy, Valletta.  The recital starts at 12:30pm.

The talented duo will celebrate the festive season by performing some exquisite sacred pieces, mostly Baroque masterpieces by Haydn, Mendelssohn, Vivaldi, Mozart and arias from the Italian 19-th century operatic composer Rossini.

Andriana Yordanova, established soprano and voice teacher holds a Masters in Opera singing and Vocal pedagogy and a Ph.D. in Music, both from National Music Academy “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov” Sofia as well as a Master degree in Russian language and literature from the Sofia University “St Kliment Ohridski”. She won scholarships for European Opera Thrust in England and Academy “Boris Christoff” in Rome. She is a winner of competitions and a member of international judging boards. Her extensive repertoire ranges from Italian, French, German and Russian operas to operettas, baroque music, Lieder and modern composers. Her career brought her from Bulgaria to Egypt, Greece, Germany, Switzerland, Russia, Italy, Austria. Since 2001 she lives in Malta performing in Manoel Theater, Aurora Theater-Gozo, MCC, St John’s Cathedral and many other concert halls. She is teaching voice technique at Johann Strauss School of Music and “Atelier Lyrique”, Malta.

Ramona Zammit Formosa commenced her pianoforte studies in Malta with Fay Griscti Davies, in Holland with Prof Marcel Baudet, then in London with Byrce Morrison. She also studied the flute with Douglas Townshend and harpsichord with Helena Mowatt Brown. Besides the Renaissance and Baroque period, Ramona also specialized in 20th century and contemporary works for the harpsichord. On returning to Malta Ramona continued studying the pianoforte repertoire with her mentor, artist and musician Pawlu Grech.  During the Biennale held in Malta in June 2005, Ramona gave the first-ever performance on the clavichords built by Dr.George Debono. Together with her husband Silvio Zammit, she has recorded CD s featuring works by Maltese composers Carmelo Pace and Charles Camilleri, and 18th and 19th century Malta-related compositions together with the Gukulari ensemble. She has recently recorded a solo album with the piano compositions of Carmelo Pace.

Sacred Music Concert will be held at St. Catherine of Italy, Valletta on Tuesday 28 December 2021.
