Celebrating Spring with Song

Our Lady of Victory Church in Valletta will once again host the popular weekly lunchtime concert organised by Barocco Foundation in collaboration with Din l-Art Ħelwa.  This concert is going to be held on Tuesday 28 March 2023 at 12:30pm.

Soprano Maria Grazia Grech and international pianist Sofia Narmania will perform a magnificent selection of post-Baroque arias. Amongst the beautiful songs in French and German the intriguing programme includes Suleika 1 and Die Fiorelle by F. Schubert and C’est ainsi que tu es by F. Poulenc as well as J. Massenet’s Musette. The talented pianst Sofia Narmania will perform two delightful piano solos namely Ein Albumblatt by R. Wagner and Intermezzo from Opera Carmen by G. Bizet. This recital will proceed with more sparkling pieces amongst which Notre amour and Après un rêve  by G. Faure. The enchanting  programme will conclude with C. Debussy’s Chevaux de bois and Vergeblisches Ständchen by J. Brahms.

The Church of Our Lady of Victory, with its painted ceiling by baroque artist Alessio Erardi, is the first church of Valletta and a magnificent setting for the cultural events. It was built by Grand Master de Valette and the Order of St John after their victory in the Great Siege of 1565.  It has been restored by Din l-Art Ħelwa, voluntary National Trust of Malta.

After the concert, patrons are invited for free to the cellar of the church to watch a short audio visual show about the building, history and the restoration of this gem.

Celebrating Spring with Song will be held at Our Lady of Victory church, Valletta on Tuesday 28 March 2023 at 12:30pm.
