Divine Harmony

Barocco Foundation in collaboration with Din l-Art Ħelwa presents emerging soprano Alexandra Camilleri Gambin alongside inspiring pianist Elaine Mercieca during a recital of beautiful songs and arias at Our Lady of Victory church, Valletta.  This concert is on Tuesday 2 May 2023 and starts at 12:30pm.

Amongst other lovely pieces, the programme embraces sparkling melodies and songs by various composers in English, German and Italian. Hark! The Echoing Air by G. F. Handel will open the delightful programme followed by Ombra mai fu by the same composer. This concert ensues by Giunse alfin il momento and Batti Batti by W. A. Mozart.  Other timeless pieces are Ich liebe dich and  Solveig’s Song by E. Grieg. During this beautiful concert Elaine will perform a piano solo namely F. Schubert’s Impromptu no.3 in G flat major from D899. This lovely recital will conclude with Gretchen also by F. Schubert.

The Church of Our Lady of Victory, with its painted ceiling by baroque artist Alessio Erardi, is the first church of Valletta. It was built by Grand Master de Valette and the Order of St John after their victory in the Great Siege of 1565.  It has been restored by Din l-Art Ħelwa, voluntary National Trust of Malta.

After the concert, patrons are invited for free to the cellar of the church to watch a short audio visual show about the building, history and the restoration of this gem.
