Peace and Simplicity

Barocco Foundation in collaboration with Din l-Art Ħelwa will be presenting established soprano Rachel Fabri accompanied by versatile pianist Ramona Zammit Formosa during a lunchtime concert at Our Lady of Victory church, Valletta on Tuesday 30 May 2023.  This recital starts at 12:30pm.

The intriguing programme starts with Simple Gifts by J. Brackett followed by E. Morricone’s Nella Fantasia a vocal adaptation of Gabriel’s Oboe from the film ‘The Mission’ and G. Paisiello’s Nel Cor Piu Non Mi Sento. Ramona will play some engaging piano interludes.  The delightful programme proceeds with Batti Batti O Bel Masetto from Don Giovanni by W.A. Mozart, Le Colibri by Chausson and Handel’s How Beautiful are the Feet. This inspiring recital concludes with Sure on this Shining Night by S. Barber, John Brunning’s Pie Jesu and Make me a Channel of your Peace by S. Temple.

The Church of Our Lady of Victory, with its painted ceiling by baroque artist Alessio Erardi, is the first church of Valletta. It was built by Grand Master de Valette and the Order of St John after their victory in the Great Siege of 1565.  It has been restored by Din l-Art Ħelwa, voluntary National Trust of Malta.

After the concert, patrons are invited for free to the cellar of the church to watch a short audio visual show about the building, history and the restoration of this gem.
