- Promote education and dissemination of scientific information.
- Encourage meetings of special interest groups about the speciality and to make provision for these to meet and discuss latest advances.
- Recommend desirable standards for training of anaesthesiologists and for nurses seconded to the speciality as anaesthetic nurses. This is achieved through the formulating and regularly updating the Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care training document and fully participating in the Anaesthesiology Training Committee.
- Provide information regarding opportunities for post-graduate training and research. By publishing a journal in English the Association will encourage local research and will keep in touch with associations of other countries.
- Make suitable recommendations regarding the well-being of patients and anaesthesia personnel.
- Represent and advance the interest of its members. The Association is not a trade union and is a non-profit organisation.
- Represent Malta and its resident Anaesthesiologists at European and International bodies and organizations e.g. UEMS, ESA and WFSA.
- Through its membership of the Specialist Accreditation Committee (SAC) it will oversee the accreditation and/or admission of prospective specialists on to the Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine section of the Malta Specialist Register.
