Għaqda Mużikali Sant’Andrija is a musical, cultural and social organisation established in 1883 to promote music and culture amongst the people of the village of Luqa. Its main task is to teach music to children youths and adults to join its band and be able to perform musical programmes on various occasions, mainly during the feast of Luqa’s titular patron, Saint Andrew.
The organization since its inception had as its main mission the promulgation of the music culture and the active participation in the cultural-religious activities organized in the village. This objective was achieved through the provision of free music tuition and establishment of work-shops for the manufacture and restoration of street decorations.
Its members participate on a voluntary basis and has been registered as an NGO since 2010, registration reference VO 0395.
As already highlighted its main task is to promote music and this during these past 133 years has been achieved successfully. The current band director hails from Luqa and he attended his first music lessons at the Club. Others have followed and various students have completed their studies successfully.
But apart from music, Għaqda Mużikali Sant’Andrija is also involved in various cultural and social activities, amongst these one have to mention the activities held during Good Friday and Easter and Christmas. Activities are also held on the occasion of Luqa’s Day and the Titular Feast on the 30th of November.
