The Minister for Inclusion, Social Wellbeing and Voluntary Organisations Hon. Julia Farrugia Portelli visited the Valletta offices for her first official meeting with the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector. During the meeting, Chairperson Dr. Noel Camilleri gave an overview of the plans of the council to the Hon. Julia Farrugia Portelli, one of the priorities being the creation of more opportunities for other Voluntary Organisations to apply for funding as well as the centralisation of the same funds to guarantee more efficiency.
Hon. Julia Farrugia Portelli said that being a volunteer is something that brings so much gratification, especially since she experienced it firsthand. Moreover, she mentioned that if volunteering would ever come to a halt, we would be stopping the spirit of community in our localities. The Hon. Julia Farrugia Portelli added that the activism of people who give their contribution can be traced back to when they were volunteers. One of the voluntary’s focus is on our youth, as volunteering can create a space where they can learn certain skillsets that otherwise, they would never get from a school setting.
The Chairperson Dr. Noel Camilleri presented the Hon. Julia Farrugia Portelli with the Council’s Proposal for the Electoral manifestos for the upcoming General Election. Dr. Noel Camilleri showed his appreciation for the Hon. Julia Farrugia Portelli visit to meet the Council.
